Woodfield Hunt Club

The land was an English-style equestrian center where horses were ridden and stabled into the 1960s, and the community still carries its name. There is no riding here now, but the name is not decoration; it is what was on this ground before the houses were.

Two entrances open onto Jog Road, each with a guard gate manned twenty-four hours a day and security patrolling beyond it. Jog Road has been known locally for decades as Millionaire's Row.

The Houses

There are 326 custom houses, built in two phases through the first half of the 1980s, the lots selling between 1981 and 1986, on ground from about a quarter of an acre to seven eighths, with the middle of the range close to a third. Some have been rebuilt on double lots, which is why the ground under two neighbors can differ so much.

They run roughly 3,200 to 7,000 square feet. The architecture ranges from Mediterranean with Addison Mizner influence through to plainer contemporary work, because each was commissioned separately rather than picked from a builder's catalogue.

What the Name Is About

Two decades of open ground separate the horses from the houses, which is part of why the lots were platted large and irregular rather than on a builder’s grid. The name came with the land rather than being chosen for effect.

That is worth saying plainly because the word in the title does not describe anything a buyer joins. There are no stables here now and no riding, and no membership of any kind attaches to owning a house.

Two Neighborhoods, One Address

The lots take about 126 of the community's 207 acres. The remaining 80 are the parks, the recreation ground and the planting, which on a property of this age has had four decades to fill in.

The clubhouse, the clay courts, the fitness center, the basketball courts and the parks are community amenities, and a tennis professional is available to residents for a separate charge. The assessment is billed quarterly.

The houses were each commissioned rather than chosen, which is the practical consequence of a community that grew lot by lot through the 1980s instead of arriving as a finished product. Original houses stand beside gut rebuilds on the same street, so condition varies far more here than price per square foot suggests. Roof age, impact glass and kitchens are the three worth checking first on a house of this vintage.

Woodfield Hunt Club is a separate community from the adjoining Woodfield Country Club. That club now requires membership of the buyers inside it, and none of it attaches to a home here. Where Woodfield Hunt Club Sits

St. Andrew's School stands across Jog Road, on its own gated campus, a passing landmark beside the entrance. Town Center at Boca Raton is a little over two miles away, and Regency Court with its boutique shops and restaurants, as well as Publix, is within walking distance. Downtown Delray is about ten miles northeast and the beach a little further.
