Most communities treat tennis as a set of courts behind the clubhouse. Lotus gave it a front door.

The Lotus Racquet Center has its own address at 8190 Paradise Bay Avenue, its own building and its own pro shop. Seven lighted clay courts run beneath shade pavilions, with an eighth court trading clay for the quicker response of asphalt, and six pickleball courts alongside them. The lights mean play carries well past sundown, which in South Florida is when most people actually want to be on a court.

That arrangement is the tell for how the whole place is built. The amenities here were given real estate rather than leftover space.

Where the Water Catches the Light

The Lifestyle Center anchors the rest, about 26,000 square feet of clubhouse standing on more than eight acres of recreation grounds. Inside are a fitness center, yoga and group studios, a restaurant and cafe bar, an indoor sports court set up for basketball and multi-sport play, game and card rooms, and rooms set aside for teenagers and for younger children. A full-time lifestyle director runs a standing calendar of programming.

Outside there are four separate bodies of water. Two large pools, one of them resort-style with cabanas and lounge areas and the other set up for lengths, a whirlpool spa, and a splash area, with a fountain keeping the water moving and a cabana pool house and patio alongside. A party pavilion takes its own part of the deck. Basketball and the playground occupy separate ground again, so a match, a workout, a swim and a meal can happen in one visit without any of them borrowing space from the others.

Homes with Room to Change Scale

There are 804 houses, and they run from 1,996 to 5,160 square feet, a wide enough band that no one floor plan becomes the rule. The choice here extends past elevations to genuinely different amounts of interior space.

What ties them together is the architecture. Lotus is entirely contemporary, with modern elevations, clean lines and expansive glass, and it was the community that set that direction for GL Homes in this market. In a county largely built in Mediterranean and transitional idioms, a neighborhood of 804 uniformly modern houses stands out, and it is the reason Lotus draws the buyer it draws.

Sales opened in January 2019 and the first residents moved in that November. The Lifestyle Center followed in 2020, and the pools, the spa and the basketball and pickleball courts came in 2022. Entry is through a manned gatehouse, with a security vehicle patrolling around the clock.

Lotus, Lotus Palm or Lotus Edge

The three are frequently confused, so it is worth sorting out before you start looking. Lotus is the original, 804 houses, sold out and available only as resale, with the Lifestyle Center and the racquet center described above. Lotus Palm followed as the second, also sold out, sharing the same contemporary design language. Lotus Edge is the newest, off Lyons Road just north of Glades, with a larger clubhouse and a court program that adds padel to tennis and pickleball.

The practical difference is straightforward. Lotus and Lotus Palm mean resale, an established neighborhood with mature landscaping, finished amenities and a known monthly cost. Lotus Edge means new construction, design center choices and a larger amenity package that is already open. Which one fits depends on whether you would rather choose your finishes or move into a community that already works.
