Homes for Sale in Newport Cove

A walk here can stop when an otter surfaces. Where the lake holds the trees upside down, a dark head appears, one widening ring pulls the reflected branches apart, and the animal slips under again.

The clubhouse stands just beyond the entry gate, and the walking path curves around the building and continues along its back, with the pool on one side of that rear passage and the lake and trees on the other. Follow it around and recreation, water and planted bank pass in sequence before the route returns to the front. Another lap may produce another encounter. Either way, the next stretch is walked with an eye on the water.

The other animals keep to their own routes. Wild rabbits move along the softer edges, inconspicuous until one lifts its head beside you. Birds call and change branches overhead. A squirrel crosses a limb, stops, and disappears into the leaves before you round the building. None of it stays at a scenic distance.

Beyond the clubhouse, the planted bank gives way to clipped crowns repeating down the streets. Each street tree is pruned into a tight orb poised above its trunk, and yet none of them match. Leaves escape the outline, branches keep their own lean, and the sequence shifts from one house to the next.

As the light goes, the lake takes the color of the sunset and holds it alongside an inverted line of trees, until one ripple breaks the reflection apart and you find yourself waiting to see where the next disturbance appears.

The Shape of the Place

The lake is not a pond at the entrance. It branches through the middle of the community in long fingers, so the streets are drawn around water rather than around each other, and a good number of the houses back onto it. The walking route follows that shape, which is why a lap here is a walk rather than a circuit of a parking lot.

Beside the clubhouse are a heated pool and the courts, laid out for tennis and pickleball on their own ground at the southern edge. Inside is an exercise studio and a lounge that looks out over the pool at the back of the building. Off to one side of the clubhouse there is a broad open lawn, the kind of ground people end up throwing a ball around on. An organized social club runs activities through the year, which is the difference between a community with facilities and a community where people know each other. The streets are laid with underground wiring rather than poles.

The Houses

There are 297 of them, and they went up in the early 1990s, which the association describes as a mix of southern charm and Tuscan elegance. In practice that means one and two story houses on palm-lined streets, most in three and four bedroom layouts, many with a lake or water view, a good number with vaulted ceilings and enclosed patios. The lots run close to an eighth of an acre.

Because they share a build date, the question that separates two listings here is what has been done since. Roofs, kitchens and impact glass are the three worth checking first on a house of this age.

The Practical Details

The entrance is gated on a resident call system rather than a staffed gatehouse. A visitor calls the home from the gate and the resident opens it from inside. The clubhouse and the walking route sit immediately beyond.

Hagen Ranch Road puts Delray Marketplace three and a half miles south and the Turnpike close at hand. Downtown Delray Beach is about seven and a half miles east along Atlantic Avenue, which is the city's main thoroughfare and its route to the water, passing Pineapple Grove where public art lines several blocks north of Atlantic. The beach at the end of it is about eight miles.
