A Plan That Took Its Time

A plan approved in 1977 has taken more than forty years to fill Fieldbrook with fifty-four houses, one full-acre lot at a time. The acreage held. Thirty-six houses went up in the 1980s; another twelve followed in the 1990s. Building continued through 2024. Every one of the fifty-four lots falls between 1.00 and 1.14 acres, a narrow range from the smallest lot to the largest across the entire development.

The chronology is visible at street level. Most houses run long and low, their single-story profiles set well back from the road, while split-level, two-story, and larger estate forms change the height from one address to the next. Remodels and complete rebuilds extend the sequence, yet broad intervals keep each altered profile distinct from its neighbors.

The Lake Holds the Center

A lake of about nine and a half acres holds the center. Its open water gathers the lakefront properties around a common view, while full-acre grounds preserve generous room between one address and the next. Late in the afternoon, sunlight travels across the water and catches the residences nearest the shore. The surface brightens, then loosens their reflections into smaller bands as the light shifts. Across the lake, wide setbacks give each roofline its own frame.

Away from the shoreline, the arrangement becomes simpler. There is no country club to join and no membership requirement attached to ownership. Owners return to their own private grounds, where the house itself holds the ordinary hours of the day and the lake remains the common view beyond them.

One House at a Time

The sense of space begins inside the gate. From the car, an acre reads not as a figure on paper but as the long approach to each residence: road, then open ground, then the house set back beyond it. There is time to take in one property before the next comes forward. The distances do the quiet work. They soften the change from Jog Road and give each entrance, drive, and facade room to stand on its own. Even where the architecture rises higher, the spacing keeps the street from closing in. The association holds three common tracts; one contains the lake, and another forms a buffer along Jog Road.

Eleven houses have changed hands since 2022. For a buyer, each visit begins at the same Jog Road gate and ends at a house with its own build history. From the road, Fieldbrook first reads as one guarded address; at the door, it has narrowed to a particular parcel, shaped by its year of construction and whatever changes followed.
